Rua das Pedras, 25 - Centro
Armação de Búzios/RJ

If you are on the most charming peninsula in Brazil, and you love hiking, we have selected seven trails that you cannot miss:

1- Father Victor Point

Located at the end of Praia Rasa, one of the oldest beaches in Búzios, Ponta do Pai Vitorio is known as a natural viewpoint and has one of the most impressive views of the entire peninsula.

The place is a little far from Rua das Pedras, where our hostel is located, but you can go by car or take a van or bus and then continue on foot. Soon after, the short walk begins, and you can reach the top of the hill by following a 10-minute trail that starts before the beach or go to the beach and climb the rocks.

With an impressive view of an island that is “connected” to the mainland by a narrow stone passage, where nature is practically intact, Ponta do Pai Vitorio has been very popular on social media, where tourists take incredible photos with the entire city on the horizon. You can also rest from the walk on the small beach there, so don’t forget your swimsuit.

But be careful with the time! Getting out after dark can be a bit tricky and dangerous.

Difficulty level: Easy

2- Crossing Song – Turtle

You already know that our hostel is located in front of Praia do Canto, right on Rua das Pedras, so you need to know this trail! It starts on the left side of the beach, and after crossing the rocks you arrive at Praia dos Amores, where it is worth spending 15 minutes enjoying the place. On the left side of the beach, you will see a trail going up the hill, and that is where our adventure begins. After going all the way up, turn towards the beach and enjoy the beautiful view, which combines the blue of the sea with the blue of the sky to form a stunning landscape. Then it is time to move on, the forest seems to close in a little but you can go on calmly and without fear. Further ahead, turn right and continue straight until you reach the next beach, Praia das Virgens. You will need to go down a ravine before the beach, and this may be the most difficult part of the entire crossing, but there is a rope to help with the process.

Praia das Virgens is so named because it is almost untouched by man, has a small strip of sand (the smallest beach in the city!) and is perfect for those who like more exotic and hidden places.

From there, the path continues along the rocks that surround the coast, but don’t hesitate, it’s not difficult. After a few minutes you will see Praia da Tartaruga and all its beauty appear in front of you. And then you know what to do, spread out your beach towel and go for a nice swim.

Praia da Tartaruga has a long strip of sand and many bars, restaurants and street vendors. Be careful because the right side of the beach is made up of a large coral reef (perfect for snorkeling, just a tip), the largest on the peninsula, so swimming there can be dangerous, be careful!

Difficulty level: Medium

Estimated time: 2 hours

3-Horseshoe Crossing – Ferradurinha

This trail connects two beautiful beaches, Ferradura (which is a 20-minute walk from Rua das Pedras, where our hostel is located) and Ferradurinha. The best thing about this trail is that along the way you pass several paradisiacal places, several viewpoints and the famous Ponta do Guardião, a cove of rocks that forms the face of a man. Legend has it that he is the guardian of the place.

We also pass by Enseada das Poças, which depending on the tide may be dry, which is a shame. This route also includes Poça da Tartaruga, Buraco do Céu, Ponta do Canivete, Gruta da Ferradurinha (perfect for diving!) and Praia dos Amores, which is right in front of Praia da Ferradurinha.

But be careful because the trail is not very well marked and there are many forks, which can cause confusion along the way. Contact our reception and ask about guided hiking tours with our staff! We want you to have an incredible experience and your safety is essential during these times.

Difficulty level: Medium/Difficult

Estimated time: 4 hours

4- Emerências Mountains

This is a must-see on your vacation itinerary! Located in Tucuns, Serra das Emerências is the highest point in the city, famous for the unique view it provides of the entire city of Buzios. It is also a place for preserving Brazilian fauna and flora and is also one of the most important brazilwood reserves in the state, home to endangered animals such as the maned sloth, the golden lion tamarin and the capuchin monkey. You can feel the importance of this place, right? Well, and all of this is right here close to us, just 10 minutes by car or bus from the city center, where our Bamboo Hostel is located!

The highest point of the mountain range is almost 200 meters above sea level. The walk to get there is easy, a 3.2-kilometer route. The best part is that the panoramic view allows you to see both Buzios and the neighboring city, Cabo Frio.

Pay attention to the time you will be climbing the mountain to avoid the risk of coming down at night and ask our receptionists about how exactly to get to the start of the trail, they know everything and will give you several tips to make your Bamboo experience even better!

Difficulty level: Easy

Estimated time: 3/4 hours

5- Turtle Crossing – Manguinhos

This crossing is a very easy and peaceful route, perfect for an afternoon stroll with your family. Starting on the left side of Tartaruga beach, crossing the hill that separates the two beaches, with a beautiful view of the entire coast in the background, it takes you to Manguinhos beach, passing by the typical fauna and flora of Buzios.

On the Manguinhos side, you come across a beautiful pier, and continuing along the sand, passing by old houses and jaw-dropping rock formations, you reach the famous Porto da Barra, a beautiful and romantic gastronomic hub with many restaurants, bars and cafes, where stopping for a drink while watching the sunset is a must! Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Difficulty level: easy

6-Ponta da Lagoinha

This tour is not really a trail or a crossing, but it should be on your travel itinerary! Ponta da Lagoinha is a cluster of rocks of all sizes you can imagine, forming walls, slopes and descents, and an incredible natural pool. This magical place is located in the Ferradura neighborhood, on the left side of the beach, going up the cobblestone street, about 500 meters away from the shore. From there you have a great view of Foca and Forno beaches. Ponta da Lagoinha is a perfect place to take incredible photos and videos for your social media, with each step you find a new angle, each better than the last. A good idea is to go there early in the morning or late afternoon, when the rocks are not so hot. An interesting fact about the place is that in 1990, Caetano Veloso performed a show that became part of the city’s history. The event was in favor of the preservation of Lagoinha, but unfortunately there are no video records of this show. Golden tip: You can easily get there by taxi 😉 Ask the Bamboo Hostel receptionists for more information!

7-Travessia Brava – Olho de Boi

This trail is one of the shortest on the peninsula. Praia Brava is a 20-minute walk from Rua das Pedras and, in addition to being one of the most beautiful beaches in Búzios, you can also enjoy an incredible view by crossing it. It starts on the right side of the beach and after a 10-minute walk, you reach the top of the hill, where you have a panoramic view that is worth the effort! Once you get up there, in addition to taking incredible photos, you can continue along the trail and after a 5-minute descent, you arrive at Olho de Boi beach. Be careful, this is a nudist beach, that is, you can only enter if you are completely naked!

Olho de Boi Beach is a small and very charming beach, which is worth visiting if you want an adventure and to do something different…
